Product Role & System Fit

In complex industrial control systems, you often need to bridge your main controller (the RX3i CPU) to a fieldbus network of I/O devices, distributed instruments, or remote nodes. That’s exactly where IC695PBM300 enters the scene. It is a dedicated PROFIBUS-DP master module that plugs into an RX3i backplane and allows the CPU to exchange data with PROFIBUS-DP slaves. In effect, it turns your RX3i system into a controller on the Profibus network.

The module sits in a universal RX3i backplane (PCI-style slot), acting as an interface board. The RX3i CPU communicates with it over the backplane, while outward-facing it speaks PROFIBUS-DP. This separation isolates the industrial network layer from the CPU logic layer. Using this module, your RX3i logic can issue reads, writes, alarms, and diagnostics over PROFIBUS, enabling distributed I/O architectures, remote subsystems, or integration with third-party instrumentation over Profibus.

Because it supports multiple baud rates, the IC695PBM300 can adapt to legacy devices in your network or match the speed of your fieldbus. Moreover, its support for diagnostic features, sync/freeze modes, and DP-V1 extensions enhances your ability to monitor and control the network robustly.

When placed within a PACSystems architecture, the module works in tandem with other communication modules (e.g. Ethernet, serial, HART) and I/O modules to build a complete control system. In many retrofits, the PBM300 often replaces older legacy Profibus masters, giving you a modern, higher-performance replacement that still integrates with older devices.
