Product Role & System Fit

The IC695CMM004-BF is not a controller itself but a communications bridge. Within an RX3i PACSystems architecture, it slots into a universal backplane, adjacent to CPU, I/O, and network modules. Its job: expose and manage up to four serial channels. It effectively extends the control system’s reach into serial field equipment.

Each port is software configurable—RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485—and it supports full- and half-duplex modes. You assign each serial port to a protocol: Modbus slave or master, CCM slave (firmware 1.10+), or DNP3 master/slave (firmware 1.20+).

Because isolation is built in, you don’t need separate galvanic isolation boxes, simplifying panel design. Port-to-port isolation (500 Vdc) and port-to-backplane isolation (250 Vac) help shield sensitive I/O from serial noise.

In retrofit projects, the IC695CMM004-BF often replaces older proprietary serial cards or discrete communications gateways. Because the RX3i platform is backward-compatible with many legacy GE/Motorola offerings, this module becomes a low-effort way to modernize system connectivity. Also, during phased upgrades, it allows engineers to gradually migrate different serial networks into a single rack without wiring chaos.
